Applicants to Master of Public Health programs only, not MPH dual degree programs, apply though the Schools of Public Health Application Service with a Supplemental application to UTHSC SPH. All dual degree MPH applicants follow the information below. The SOPHAS application process may be reviewed on the SPH website at http://www.sph.uth.tmc.edu/sservices/prospective.aspx?id=7010

The following applies to all dual degree MPH applicants:
  • $30.00 Application fee payable to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston (UTHSC-H) Note: The application fee is not due by the deadline for this program.
  • Documentation of earned prior Baccalaureate or more advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution (The UTSPH prefers a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale)
  • Scores from the General Test (including Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical Writing scores) of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last five years.  The GRE is required of all M.P.H. applicants and applicants of several other degree programs. Please see application for specific details. Applicants with earned domestic doctoral degrees may request a GRE waiver.  A combined score of 1000 for the Master's programs and 1200 for Doctoral programs on the Verbal and Quantitative sections are preferred.  For the Analytical Writing section, a score of at least a 4.0 on a scale of 6.0 is preferred.  Our institution code for ETS is either 6906 or 6907.
  • Scores from Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the last two years for applicants from countries where English is not the native language.  The minimum score is 565 for paper-based test or 225 for the computer-based test.  Our institution code for ETS is either 6906 or 6907.
  • Two recent and original letters of reference on official letterhead (academic recommendations preferred, e.g., letters from professors who can attest to applicant's ability to do graduate level work)
  • Official transcripts (undergraduate and graduate) for ALL course work completed including course work transferred onto another transcript.  NOTE:  International and domestic applicants who have obtained their degrees abroad must submit in addition to official transcripts the following: official marksheets (for applicants from India and Pakistan), official degree certificates, and a recent credential evaluation certified by an accredited evaluation service.  UTSPH will only accept either a general evaluation report from Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (www.ece.org) or a document-by-document evaluation from World Education Services (www.wes.org).
  • Written statement of career goals

Although they are not required for all applicants, the following documents provide information that the Admissions Committee often finds helpful in evaluating an applicant's potential for success at the School:

  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume
  • Copies (not originals) of published papers, reports, etc. to serve as a writing sample
